{"id":882,"date":"2026-08-20T18:07:31","date_gmt":"2026-08-20T09:07:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/rusutsu-sustainable.com\/?p=882"},"modified":"2026-08-20T18:07:31","modified_gmt":"2026-08-20T09:07:31","slug":"rusutsu-water-cycle-project-phase-2-begins","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/rusutsu-sustainable.com\/?p=882&lang=en","title":{"rendered":"Rusutsu Water Cycle Project: Phase 2 Begins"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<section class=\"wp-block-jinr-blocks-designtitle b--jinr-block b--jinr-h2rich d--h2rich-left d--h2rich-style1 d--titledesign-weight-thin d--h2rich-none js--scr-animation\" style=\"border-color:false\"><div class=\"c--h2rich-contents\"><h2 class=\"a--h2rich-maincopy d--bold ef\" style=\"color:false\"><strong>Building an observation network to understand groundwater across the landscape<\/strong><\/h2><\/div><\/section>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July 2026, Rusutsu Resort launched Phase 2 of its Water Cycle Project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Rusutsu, winter snow and rainfall seep into the ground, becoming groundwater that supports resort facilities, agriculture, and local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To better understand this invisible flow of water, we have been monitoring groundwater levels, rainfall, springs, and rivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During Phase 2, we checked the installation and operational status of the infrastructure required for continuous monitoring, including observation wells, rain gauges, water-level sensors, and the LoRaWAN communication network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Most importantly, groundwater must be understood not through a single well, but by combining data from multiple locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">By comparing groundwater levels, elevations, and rainfall at each site, we can gain a region-wide understanding of the direction in which groundwater flows and how rainwater and snowmelt infiltrate the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In Phase 2, we confirmed observation sites in the East, Izumikawa, and West areas, laying the groundwork for future data collection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We also reviewed sensor connectivity and data-collection methods, identifying locations where existing equipment cannot provide adequate communication coverage and where additional infrastructure is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The year 2026 marks an important transition: from simply monitoring conditions to applying the data collected to environmental management and groundwater conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This work has advanced Rusutsu\u2019s observation network to its next stage, enabling us to continuously monitor the region\u2019s water cycle.\u307e\u3057\u305f\u3002<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"515\" height=\"915\" src=\"https:\/\/rusutsu-sustainable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-845\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rusutsu-sustainable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1.jpg 515w, https:\/\/rusutsu-sustainable.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/image1-169x300.jpg 169w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 515px) 100vw, 515px\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>In July 2026, Rusutsu Resort launched Phase 2 of its Water Cycle Project.
