Yet operating such an expansive destination demands significant energy, inevitably affecting the environment through CO\u2082 emissions and water use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Precisely for this reason, we have begun re-examining the very foundation of what a resort should be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83c\udf3f We have already made our CO\u2082 emissions visible. The next step is figuring out how to reduce them<\/strong>.<\/strong><\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

At Rusutsu Resort, we have already completed a detailed analysis of energy consumption and CO\u2082 emissions across the entire property\u2014along with calculations of the carbon offsets we will need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This study covers everything from facility-level emissions to the breakdown of energy sources, giving us a clear set of priorities for future action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our next step is to put reductions into practice, deciding which measures<\/strong> to use and when<\/strong> to implement them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Options include bringing in renewable energy, boosting absorption through sustainable forestry, and exploring carbon credits to offset any remaining emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udeb0 Toward a resort that not only uses water, but \u201ccultivates\u201d it<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Water is indispensable to running a resort, and we are now taking a hard look at the balance between the amount we use and the recharge required for local water resources to recover naturally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To tackle this issue, we are working with specialists in water resources, forestry, and soil science to explore topics such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

  • How much time local groundwater needs to replenish<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • How effectively forest management and the design of water-retention areas can promote groundwater recharge<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Systems for returning the water used within the resort to the natural hydrological cycle<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    From \u201ctaking\u201d water to \u201ccirculating\u201d<\/strong> it\u2014this shift in thinking will shape the new value of Rusutsu Resort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    \ud83d\udd0b Decarbonization\u2014pursued not only within our facilities, but together with the entire community<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    We are also working with multiple companies and research institutions to explore region-specific ways of introducing renewable energy\u2014such as solar power and micro-hydropower\u2014tailored to local conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Instead of merely \u201cadding green equipment,\u201d we are assessing how well each option fits the area\u2019s climate, terrain, and water systems as we search for a truly sustainable path to energy self-sufficiency.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Meanwhile, the following energy-efficiency upgrades are already underway at existing facilities:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
