From Resort to Future Infrastructure — Rusutsu’s Next Move to Connect IoT and Nature
A new era—one in which nature’s data can be captured in the cloud every 30 minutes—is about to begin at Rusutsu.
During the recent water-resource survey, the next step proposed was to build a real-time monitoring system that leverages IoT. Using a LoRaWAN network for low-power, long-range communication, water-level sensors and rain gauges will be installed at key locations. Data from rivers, wells, and springs will be gathered every 30 minutes and digitised.
Once in place, this framework will let us see where, when, and how much water is moving throughout the resort—an entry point to a world in which Rusutsu’s natural environment speaks to us in real time.
This monitoring system is more than a technical upgrade; it is a new way of engaging with nature. By harnessing the data, we can inform tourism, agriculture, disaster-prevention measures, and development decisions alike. Looking ahead, the system is expected to feed into educational programs and hands-on tours, creating new experiences that allow people to “see, understand, and protect” Rusutsu’s natural assets.
Technology that stands in harmony with nature—such future-forward infrastructure is now taking shape in Rusutsu.
