We strive to be known—across Japan and around the world—as a destination where visitors can enjoy themselves in harmony with nature.

By allowing guests to experience tourism and leisure while also learning about nature’s value and workings, we are steadily progressing toward becoming a “resort of discovery.”

1.In Harmony with Nature

Rusutsu’s forests and snow, as well as its rivers and groundwater, are invaluable partners to the resort. Each day we look for creative ways to draw on nature’s power without harming it.

2.Together with the Local Community

Protecting nature takes teamwork with local residents. We collaborate as conservation partners—co-hosting events, walking the forests to conduct surveys, and working together to safeguard our shared environment.

3.Learning and Challenges

At Rusutsu, we offer hands-on programs—such as “geo tours” and fieldwork in nature—that let children and students learn by experiencing the outdoors. In collaboration with subject-matter experts, we design curricula that can also be used for school trips and independent research projects.

4.A Gentle Way to Travel

We encourage eco-friendly actions and moments of awareness so that everyone who visits Rusutsu can travel in a way that is gentle on nature and the local community. Leaving no litter in the environment and interacting with local residents are vital first steps toward safeguarding the future.

5.Careful Observation and Clear Communication

At Rusutsu, we do more than simply look at nature—we monitor it.
For example,

• How water in the forest seeps into the ground
• Where river and groundwater flows begin and where they end up
• How much rain and snow fall

We record these phenomena with IoT sensors and monitoring equipment, transforming nature’s rhythms into data that everyone can “see.” We then share what we learn—via our blog, events, and other channels—in clear, accessible ways.

🌿New Initiatives (from 2024 onward)

A new project has recently begun in partnership with university professors and geological specialists to study Rusutsu’s water and forests.

Researchers push through the undergrowth, tracing subsurface water flows and revealing the hidden secrets of nature.

This investigation is built on the belief that “understanding comes first in protecting nature.”

The findings are presented at symposia, incorporated into educational programs, and applied to the future development of the resort.
