Why Kamori Kanko is Committed to Sustainability

Reflections on the Water Cycle Symposium
In September 2024, a Water Cycle Symposium was held at Rusutsu Resort. During this symposium, participants—including experts and local residents—learned about the current state of water resources and the impacts of climate change, and explored possibilities for sustainable water management.
Afterward, the general manager held an internal debriefing session to share the day’s content and their own takeaways. In this article, we’ll look back on that session and use it as a springboard for our future actions.
Key Points from the Symposium
The following topics were discussed during the symposium:
✅ Climate Change and Alterations in Hokkaido’s Water Cycle
- Changes in snowfall due to rising winter temperatures
- Impact of altered snowmelt patterns on groundwater
✅ Current Status of Water Resources in Rusutsu Village
- Relationship between recent rainfall patterns and groundwater
- Role of forests in maintaining water resources
✅ Corporate Responsibility and Future Outlook
- Re-evaluating water usage at facilities
- Water conservation activities through collaboration with the local community
Employee Insights
During the briefing session, employees shared the following impressions and feedback:
💬 “I realized that protecting water resources is crucial for the future of the tourism industry.”
💬 “Learning how water reaches the resort, something we often take for granted, reminded me of its importance.”
💬 “We want to brainstorm water-saving ideas within the company and increase our actions!”
Future Actions
Inspired by this symposium, we at Kamori Kanko will re-evaluate our water usage at resort facilities and enhance environmentally conscious operations by:
🔹 Strengthening water-saving measures: Implementing systems to increase employee awareness during daily tasks.
🔹 Raising customer awareness: Promoting the importance of water resources throughout the resort.
🔹 Collaborating with the community: Partnering with Rusutsu Village to promote sustainable water management.
In this way, we will advance initiatives throughout the resort to cherish our water resources. Kamori Kanko’s sustainability activities begin with each employee’s awareness and actions. For the future of Rusutsu Resort, let’s all think together about what we can do now!
